Tui-Na (pronounced twee-nah) massage originated in ancient China and is believed to be the oldest system of bodywork. It’s one of the four main branches of traditional Chinese medicine, along with Acupuncture, Qi Gong, and Chinese herbal medicine.

The philosophy and principles of Tui-Na massage are based on traditional Chinese medicine, which focuses on emotional and physical components of a person’s well-being, as well as aspects such as climate, relationships, and diet. The goal of Tui-Na massage is to create harmony in the yin and yang of the body by getting rid of blockages and disturbances that manifest as illness, disease, and emotional issues. Tui-Na massage uses massage techniques such as acupressure, myofascial release, and reflexology.

Tui-Na massage can be used to treat pain and illness, or to maintain good health. The technique is effective in reducing stress, encouraging relaxation, and deepening sleep. It’s often used for conditions and injuries related to the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.

Dr. Hewwing received her first acupuncture treatment when she was experiencing acute lower back pain every morning upon waking after working in the retail/hospitality industry for seventeen years. Receiving acupuncture treatments resulted in longer pain free days. Experiencing early menopause and using hormone replacement therapy (HRT) did not reduce the related symptoms or stress. Resorting to acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbal medicine has provided her with positive results.

My acupuncturist whom later became my mentor encouraged and supported me to study Traditional Chinese Medicine at Endeavour College of Natural Health. I had experienced issues with painful menstruation (dysmenorrhea) as a young girl and I needed Chinese dietary advice for Post-natal care after I became a mother. I felt that learning Traditional Chinese Medicine has allowed me to assist other females with similar menstruation problems and reduce related stresses.

Apart from the many conditions mentioned above I also have an interest in treating musculoskeletal acute and chronic pain, such as frozen shoulders, tight shoulders, tennis elbow, sciatica or plantar fasciitis. I would like to assist both my female and male patients to reduce anxiety/stress, headache, migraines, tri-geminal neuralgia pain, urinary disorders, chronic fatigue symptoms , infertility, IVF support.

I also provide acupuncture treatments for acne, poor circulation with cold hands and foot, sinusitis, asthma, constipation, weight management and quit smoking.

I have enjoy studying Chinese Traditional Medicine and using acupuncture treatment to assist clients to achieve a better health and mental wellbeing. I look forward to assisting you in your journey to better and positive health.

Dr. Nguyen has over 20 years of experience in the health industry, working as a pharmacist and an acupuncturist. He has experience in a broad range of health conditions that are commonly presented by the community.

Having a western medical background, he has seen some of the medical marvels that have been achieved by modern medical science. He has also seen and understands that there are certain limitations from these modern medical treatments and medicines, treating only the symptoms and often associated with side-effects, drug interactions and sometimes they do not work as expected.

Dr. Nguyen hopes to integrate the Eastern and Western perspectives of medicine together to provide a more comprehensive understanding and treatments for his patients, as Traditional Chinese Medicine uses a more holist approach, often treating the root problem of an individual’s health issues.
